Genuis! (did I spell that write?)

Re-writes are a slow tedious business. Even when inspired it's painstaking. A little finagle in the prologue and all this other stuff has to change. Not like a ripple. Not some lovely pastural lake and shit. No pain in the ass anal-retentive snail paced editing. Each beat each phrase each assumption has to be looked at again. Truths become lies and facts that held a scene together look obvious and gimmicky. Don't get me wrong I love a good gimmick but it shouldn't do the can-can in act 2! "look at me bitches I'm a gimmick!" Please. So I've decided to have a sense of humor about it. Ha ha bloody ha ha. The Achilles...

You’ve got to pick a pocket….or not.

I saw 6-8 years olds doing Oliver! It was prob one of the cutest things EVER! They don't so much tell the story as sing the songs and..dance? well kind of run around and wave at the audience of parents. It takes about 35 minutes of joy. BUT as I'm sitting there I'm reminded what a great story Oliver Twist is AND how awesome the music from Oliver! is. (Don't you love I feel compelled to add the exclamation point?) So the ole brain started a tickin'. And I came up with a fun musical concept where I could tell the story of Oliver! as a storyteller and use a bit of music from the show. Honestly I don't know...

No please not another project David!

Yes. Should I apologize? Me thinkest not! I've been terribly busy organizing Wicca, please. We're shooting in January. Oh boy that is soooooon! Got most of the cast and some directors lined up. I think it's gunna be superlatively awesome! BUT new project on the horizon: Blood Wedding. Yes I am re-writing Lorca's genius play as a contemporary bi-lingual novella. How dare I? Indeed! But hopefully the master has a sense of humor because if this turns out even half as funny as it is in my head (and outline) audiences will line up around the block or at least through the basement of the Mexican Restaurant I hope to play at this spring! Wish me luck and...

Writing frenzy

Been writing and sculpting Faerie. It's fun but tedious. It always is in the final stages. And it is very much like sculpting. I told my friend Kat once: "you've finished a screenplay. Now write 4 re-writes. Even if it doesn't need it. Change something each time. If you end up going back to the original at leas you'll know it's the best option." Writing is re-writing. I've never thought my work came from Mt Sinai. We can argue inspiration and talent being a divine gift, but the nuts and bolts is emotionally detach and write a better story. Again. Again. Again. It's kind of like dance. It has to take over your body and every arm:...
