HIV-ehicle

I'm telling a story on Dec 2nd at The Gay and Lesbian Center for World AIDS Day. It's the story of when Chris, Yolanda and I were in Weho and they decided to get tested for HIV in a van on the street. They tested negative and we were all happy. Sort of. My Oprah Moment

Well that's what my friend called it. I performed at Apt 3F last Friday and it went amazingly! People laughed, cried, and we all collectively grew. It was tangible. At the end of the piece, I give out rocks that represent "home" and empowerment. I almost started crying when everyone's hand went up. As I placed the rocks in peoples' hands I said "welcome home" to like 70 people. It was beautiful. Ok. How's that an Oprah Moment. Origins

My friend's blog Breaking The Eggs is all about storytelling. In this recent blog he talks about our origins of storytellers in comparison to origin stories of popular comic characters. I wrote the following:I so easily recall being in 3rd grade and finding D'aulaire's Book of Greek Myths. I memorized most of them with in months. Then I would recount and re-tell to any and everyone who'd listen. I just kind of never stopped. Of course new stories have been added. Other myths. Personal stories. Mono's on everything. BUT I still tell the Greeks. I just did Achilles and re-wrote Persephone. I think I still recall the memory so easily because, albeit at a young age and not understanding...
